Cabinet Ministers List of Tripura and Insights on the 2023 Elections
The northeastern state of Tripura has been a battleground for political power, especially in the 2023 elections. Held on February 16 in a single phase, these elections were crucial, not only for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) but also for the opposition Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPM] and the new contender, Tipraha Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (TIPRA).
The Political Landscape
The 2023 Tripura elections saw a fierce triangular contest between the ruling BJP, the opposition CPM, and the emerging TIPRA. The BJP, under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, aimed to retain control of the state it seized from the Left in 2018. The CPM, which ruled Tripura for 25 years, hoped to reclaim its position by forming an alliance called Secular Democratic Forces (SDF) with parties like the Congress and Communist Party of India (CPI).
TIPRA, led by Pradyot Bikram Manikya Deb Barman, posed a significant challenge to both BJP and CPM, especially in the tribal regions of the state. The party’s rise reflected a growing sense of indigenous identity and aspiration among the local population.
Key Alliances and Contestants
In the 2018 elections, the BJP had broken the Left’s long-standing hold by winning 36 out of 60 seats with a vote share of 43.59%. The CPM was reduced to 16 seats, with a vote share of 42.22%, while BJP’s ally, the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT), won 8 seats. However, by 2023, the political dynamics had shifted. Several MLAs left the ruling alliance, raising concerns for the BJP. The change in leadership, with Prof. Dr. Manik Saha replacing Sri. Biplab Deb, also added an element of uncertainty.

Tripura witnessed a remarkable voter turnout of 89.95% during the polling on February 16, 2023, indicating the high stakes and deep engagement of the electorate in this election. As per result posted by Election Commission of India the trends and results Tripura election 2023 are as below:

The Results and Cabinet Ministers List of Tripura
As the results are declared on March 2, the formation of the new government in Tripura will be keenly observed. The composition of the Cabinet Ministers list of Tripura will reflect the outcomes of these intense political contests.
While the BJP is expected to retain key positions if they secure a victory, the involvement of TIPRA could potentially bring new faces to the Cabinet. The alliance with IPFT is also crucial for BJP as it tries to maintain a balance between tribal and non-tribal interests in the state. If CPM and its allies make a significant comeback, it could lead to a shift in the governance approach, with a focus on secular and democratic principles.
